New consultation on Luton Airport expansion
Luton Council have rebranded their company which owns the Airport as Luton Rising and launched a new consultation on the Airport expansion plans.
This is likely to be the last consultation before Luton Rising submit their proposals to the Government for approval. It runs until 4th April 2022.
Despite the new name and consultation web site the proposals still look remarkably similar to the heavily criticised plans produced by the Airport Company in 2019.
- The scale of the massive expansion remains the same – nearly a doubling of pre-Covid passenger numbers to 32 million a year. This is despite Luton Council declaring a state of climate emergency only 12 months ago.
- A lack of clear information on what the expansion means for increases in numbers of aircraft movements, traffic numbers and how the existing roads and new proposals will cope with this.
- Nothing new that addresses concerns over noise and air pollution or the economic realities relating to air traffic in the future.
- The destruction of the most ecological sensitive areas of the award winning Wigmore Valley Park with completely inadequate replacement proposals.
We will be producing more detailed comments on the proposals.
