Luton Airport Expansion Update – further delays to the decision

The Inquiry into the major Luton Airport proposals ended 10th February 2024.

These plans involve a new terminal and near doubling of passenger numbers. Our joint objection with CPRE Hertfordshire to these can be found here: Joint CPRE response October 2023

The Inspectors submitted their recommendations to the relevant Secretary of State (SoS) on 10th May 2024. The SoS then had a further three months to decide whether they accept these recommendations.

The General Election announcement prompted the SoS to extend this deadline until 4th October.  The Transport Secretary has now announced that there will be a further extension to this date until 3rd January 2024.  This is now eight months after the Inspectors’ made their recommendations to Government.
