Luton Airport submit massive expansion plans to the Government

2nd March 2023

Luton Rising (the trading name of London Luton Airport Ltd) submitted their plans to expand the Airport from 18m passengers a year to 32m by 2040 on 27th February 2023.

Because of the size of the development the application will follow a special procedure – a Development Consent Order and will be decided on by the Government not Luton Borough Council.

We can’t yet see any details yet as the Planning Inspectorate has up to 28 days to decide whether the information is enough for them to proceed or whether they need more details. Apparently the application includes 198 documents, containing just over 25,000 detailed pages of proposals and plans.

Once the Inspectorate accept the application then these will be published and interested parties will have around three months to make their views known.

The scale of expansion does not appear to have altered much since previous consultations and the extensive works involved include a new terminal, extension of the runway with considerable expansion of onsite facilities and carparking.

Watch this space for further updates.
