Get hands-on with hedges in Bedfordshire!

Could you be a CPRE Hedgerow Hero for a season or for a day and help us plant hedgerows in your area?

CPRE Bedfordshire is pleased to be part of the national CPRE Hedgerow Heroes project that aims to extend the UK hedgerows network by 40% by 2050.

Starting with a goal to plant 1000 metres of hedgerow in Bedfordshire this season, we aim to build on this to deliver a multi-year programme working with local communities to inspire them to cherish and care for their hedgerows.

All of the planting sites are accessible to local communities and the project will seek to broaden awareness of the importance of hedgerows and provide opportunities for people to connect with the landscape to enhance their knowledge and improve their wellbeing.

Sites are currently being confirmed but will include planting in Oakley, Gravenhurst, Maulden, Meppershall and Flitton and Greenfield. More information on exact locations and planting dates will be available soon.

There are two types of volunteering available:

Hero for a season!

We want to build a team of seasonal hedgerow volunteers who can support our planting across a number of local sites. This is a chance to get really stuck in and make a real difference! You will be given training in planting and will help ensure the planting days go smoothly. You may also have the opportunity to learn about hedge- laying and be involved in the ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the hedgerow. We ask you to commit to some regular days during the planting season throughout autumn and winter. Tea and cake will be provided!

Hero for a day!

We also need extra help on planting days from the local community. This may be for an hour or two or for the full day. Planting is easy to do and it is a great way to make a lasting difference to your local environment and enjoy time outdoors. Children are welcome if supervised by an adult.
